Uncle John's Flying Tips #15 – Harness Setting

Make sure the distance between your risers is set correctly. Your glider manual should tell you what this distance should be (different sizes of the same wing may have different settings - so read the manual carefully)

There are a number of methods to measure this (in needs to be done in the air to ensure it's correct). I use a piece of line attached to my karabiner, you can measure the distance from your elbow to an easy to remember place on your hand (it's usually about the first knuckle) and use that

Measure from the centre of the bottom of your risers

Adjustment is via the chest strap on your harness

Make sure you do it in a safe place and check it regularly

If the setting in incorrect, then your glider may not respond as expected - especially in a collapse!

If you are not sure - ask a coach to assist
