A brief window in the weather? Uncertain which direction to go but once airborne decided to fly east from Lamphey in a light SE'ly breeze. Skirted the Pendine Danger Area at Marros and headed back west via Red Roses in glider mode with zero on the vario (some sea-breeze effects perhaps?). The engine failed to restart when sink appeared and consequently forced to land at Llanteg. Called the wife for a retrieve!

When will this rain and strong wind cease??

The sheep left the field at Hodgeston soon after the 15th April so back to my favourite site for more flying fun!

26/04/06-Circuit practice to 1000', a total of six take-offs and landings.

30/04/06-Local flight to the south of Haverfordwest - 38K in 1 hour.

30/04/06-local flight to East Orielton-weather deteriorating!

07/05/06-Strange weather?!!! Thermals and sea breeze fronts all around the coast. Completed an 82k flight visiting all the old WW2 airfields in South Pembrokeshire - Angle, Dale, Talbenny, Templeton and Carew Cheriton. Crossed the 'heads' of Milford Haven at 3000' enroute between Angle and Dale; I'd love to do that without power!

Having to use the smaller fields at Corston (SW of Pembroke) as sheep are using my favourite Hodgeston site! Took a tour of the Angle peninsular and then set off east to visit Marros (one time coastal HG site near Pendine Beach), returning to Corston via Templeton and Lawrenny. A very pleasant 2.5 hours covering 90k.

15/04/2006

Corston again and 'nil wind'. Actually very light and very variable. Small fields are really tricky for take-off in these conditions! Aborted the first attempt but away safely next time. The conditions looked a bit grey but as the wind's so light decided on a flight to NWhitland, St Clears and Carmarthen, returning via Laugharne, Llanteg and Carew. 3 hours airtime and 115k. Landed in a freshening westerly - rain on Sunday?

I am planning to travel to one of the hill site for some real soaring!

4/4/2006 Hodgeston

Made slow progress due North to Crymych at the East end of the Preselli Hills in the moderate NNE'ly breeze. Lovely thermals on the return journey to reduce the need for engine power to a minimum! Cloud base at 3500' - 3 hours flight time.

5/4/2006

Taking off at Hodgeston again en route North to LLysyfran Reservoir and then East to the disused airfield of ex RAF Brawdy. Returning via the South of Haverfordwest and making a landing at Hodgeston after 2 1/4 hours airtime. Fuel consumption at a minimum in the strong thermals!

Light N'ly. Took off at Hodgeston to fly to Dale (disused airfield) passing to South of Haverfordwest and returning by a similar route - the alternative of crossing the mouth of Milford Haven looked very tempting but the cold forced me to take the shorter route home!

01/04/2006

No flying for 3 weeks due to strong winds, rain, poor viz and low cloud!

Hope for a change next week - NW and NE forecast!

A quick update to my diary!

18/02/06

Flying from Cleggars Bridge to make a pleasant but cold trip to St Clears and Laugharne returning via Red Roses.

23/02/06

Hodgeston - Five circuits in the early morning still air to get my spot landings spot on!

05/03/06

Hodgeston - short flight in a strong NW breeze to check out a newly fitted prop brake. Very strong early season thermals! I bet Rhosilli and other NW sites were working well?

Cleggars (Nr Lamphey) Wind SE'ly and very light.

'Local' flight to just south of Templeton disused airfield. Cloudbase at 1500' and visibility poor but safe and legal!

I hope to make the parachute repacking night on Saturday.

January 21st 2006

Light NW wind at Corston, my local (flat!) flying site.

Rigged and airborne by 12:30 to follow a planned route to Lamphey, Burton and Johnston just south of Haverfordwest Airfield ATZ. Slebech, Oakwood Leisure Park and Creswell Quay make an interesting and scenic route to return to Lamphey and then Corston to set up for landing in a SW breeze.

Part way through packing up the wind swaps back to NW!

A very pleasant 1.75 hour flight to start 2006!

A short 30 minute flight from Corston located West of Pembroke and North of D113! Too windy at 1500' to make real progress upwind.

28/12/2005

Corston again with hard frosty ground. Ideal conditions - variable 05 knts at 1000' and 2000'. 1 hr 30 mins flight to Templeton (Disused Airfield) and return. Very cold!

Cleggars Bridge (Nr Lamphey Pembrokeshire)

Very pleasant 1.5 hour flight to Angle and return via Broad Haven and Freshwater East. Must remember to avoid the Texaco refinery stack plume at 1500' !
