Flew Mere in an easterly! Not really much good, but that's aviation!

Long day of sitting in the sun listening to the birds and watching people launch and tarry a short while before sinking out. Some even managed to get back up before sinking out again. High pressure, inverted, windless day.

2009-05-23 Nant Y Moel then Fochriw
Went to Nant Y Moel. Thought there would't be many there. BCC were there on mass. Anyway, was a bit strong but doable so after a bit of umming and watching some get up and away took off. Mighty bumpy. lumpy and with a strong windit was an interesting flight and a vertical landing. The wind then went a too westerly for my liking so went to Fochriw where it was very pleasant indeed!

2009-05-10 Ebbw Vale then Skirrid then Ebbw Vale!

Interesting day. Went to Ebbw Vale where it was light and SE, a bit off, so went to Skirrid, cause it takes a SE only to find it E and light. After a bit of umming took off found a thermal! Thought about going with it, remembered I had the car keys! Bobbled about for a bit before going for the car. Returned to Ebbw Vale where we missed the flying window! Had a go at a take off and got royally lifted and deposited back by the cars, A bit too strong methinks! Waited but went home.

Early start! Bit blowy, Ron flew his hangglider, I went to the White Horse. Bit off and light! Took off slope landed. Took off again and decided to go to Milk. Gotblown over the back in a gale! Waited for it to ease. Took off floated about for ages. Weird shaped thermals.... Landed let loads of people fly. Had a chat and took off for an evening float. Got caught out by my new gliders glide angle and had to land by the track at the bottom! Much fun had by quite a few! No vid, time for getting to know my glider!

Decided to stay this side of the water! A previous engagement meant I'd have to leave early. There you go...... Anyway, was quite strong at Boss. Doabale for the most aprt but was a timely landing before it got too strong in the afternoon. Normal coastal floaty, boaty stuff.

Another late get to site. About 3pm this time. Didn't miss much so had a look at the lower takeoff and wandered up to the upper one as it seemed a bit light. Quite a few peeps about, took off, floated about, landed at the lower takeoff when it went a bit too light. After more chatting, took off in the now very light conditions for a little boat about and a landing in the bottom field. Now here's a thing, never landed in the bottom landing field 'cause I always reckoned it were a bit far away. Not on this wing it's not! Loads of people had loads of fun! Very much Pandy. Oh yes, some people had more fun than others as I heard that three peeps put their gliders into trees....... Can't see the fascination with doing this, meself.................

2009-04-11 Talybont

It seemed like a good idea. When we got there several pilots were making their way up to the SW takeoff. Ron and I didn't fancy that so we went up the waterfall path. So there we were two of us opn one side and a whole load on the other. Things didn't feel particulary good and noone on the 'farside' seemed to be rigging. Hmmmm.... Walked a little way into the bowl and the wind did seem to be fairly on and consistent. A bit weird really, 'cause the meteo wind seemed to be quite northerly and we were on an easterly facing bit. We decided to wlak further into the bowl to see what was happening there. The further into the bowl we went the more northerly the wind got (and it was freezing). A few pilots opposite did take off from the little bowl over there. Three went up, one got away, one sank into the bowl, the two others got high, one sank out behind the right hand bowl and one flew into the bowl and sank like a stone! So we knew the bowl was not working................... We then returned to the right hand side of the bowl but the wind had gone wrong and was resolutely blowing from the north. Bugger......... It appeared that thermals over the trees in front of the bowl were actually drawing air from out of the bowl! Plainly this was not gooing to work so we gave up and walked down.

Toddled over to Mere as it seemed the most likely place to fly. So did quite a few other people.......... Anyway, light South breeze plus thermals makes for mucho flying and chatting and coaching and fun!

2009-04-03 Taylbont Wind 18-23 whehn I got there increasing to 30+ by the time I decided to give up and go home...

I went for a mega parawalk today with all my kit and completely around the whole site. I got there a bit too late really. Should remember to get to big hills early, not at 3 in the afternoon! Anyway, some peeps were there on takeoff as I walked around the bowl. They took off but it appeared a bit light. They flew, three went up and away and Ken got sunk out. I got to takeoff had a chat with Ken, he took off in a lull and off he went. I waited and it got blown out. That's Talybont for you!

There were some very spirited takeoffs from lower down the hill by Cookie and Co.

I went to the Blorenge (brain fart). When the noodle finally kicked in I did want to go to Pontlotyn but my GPS would not take me there. So off to Pandy I went. Got there about 3pm and it was clearing up wonderfully! Hoorah! Loads of people had loads of fun. Bit cold though but not if you wear thermals. :) No vid, concentrating on getting familiar with my glider.  :-D

Lots of cloud cover kept a lid on things but was bouyant as a bouyant thing later in the afternoon. Just what I needed to test out my new glider.

2009-03-29 Nant Y Moel
Go there about one(ish) and it then got a bit too strong to launch so waited for it to calm down a bit. Eventully took to the skies in lumpy bumpy air. Nonetheless got some good height but was forced to land because my fingers were so painful. It was freezing up there! I really should have worn my winter gloves. Anyway, landed warmed up and flew some more, this time at an altitude that was somewhat warmer.............
