Probably, should have stuck closer to cliffs, but i was worried about people throwing salt and vinegar crisps at me from the pub. my snail was with me and she doesn't like the salt.

were you the guy who landed on the beach and was walking back up when me and Mike hibbet flew over over the cliffs  and  back up to takeoff?

LOL

Hi Jamie, Hope the little "discussion" about awards didn't take anything away from your award, good flying, see you on the hill, i'm the ugly one in a bright orange harness lower than everyone else !

I'd like to say thanks for the prize.

was unexpected but very kewl to get it.

I've not seen it yet - been doing family stuff in scotland but I think it's arrived in the office.

i flew my first xc last year from llangollen (sorry if spelt wrong) after watching the nationals pilots getting up and away.

then came along to the easter xc weekend and did a flop over the back at heol senni.

and have been trying to get up and away ever since.

it's been a grand year for me.

I hope next year is even better.

most of my xc flights this year have had some competition element to them - bcc (thames valley) or bpcup or fly largne comp. (which is worth going to if you want to try a comp in a very friendly surrounding www.flylaragne.com)

I found seeing so many other people get up and away it was almost rude not to give it a go.  8)

hope you all have a great new year and maybe catch you on the hill sometime. (I'm the scot with the red and grey UP glider)

all the best

jamie

Hi Chris, Its in  my character to "Poke", its never meant seriously, the original post said well done to Jamie, i still think its odd to have an award for a class of glider, but that doesn't take away the achievments by the pilots concerned. i'm no skygod myself and realise a lot of people do better than me, i just enjoy the sport now and then, as well as mtn biking, hill walking, kayaking.

A personal award for most irritating forum poster would be nice though.

  Cheers.

Max.

Dear Max,

Thanks for that and for amending your post to say well done Jamie.

Rest assured I enjoy my flying very much, so much so that I joined the committee whose members I'm genuinely pleased to say couldn't take things any less seriously (otherwise nowt would happen).

Incidentally if my memory serves me right (Nick confirm) had we had an entry from a AFNOR standard rated only glider that would also have qualified towards the prize Jamie won, but we didn't.

I freely admit I was riled (not flown for 2 months, hope to rectify Boxing day), guess it's now a "proper" forum now, with a bit of controversy.

Merry Xmas

Chris

Hi Chris, Relax, i was just expressing an opinion, sorry to rile you, in no way was i trying to diminish anyones achievements, i'd love to volunteer for the committee and come to the agm but my hair needs a lot of attention, you know how it is, but a special award for me would be greatly appreciated, thanks for the suggestion. we'll put it to the committee.

Seriously though, thanks to everyone who does put their time into running the club, good work !  however i think "some of you" are taking things a bit too seriously, but thats my opinion and not the view of the committee, lots of love, Max.

PS. remember to have fun, its only paragliding! heres a nice winter pic of 2 DHV1 gliders.

Dear Maxturner,

The committee decided in 2004 to create an award for the best single DHV 1/2 glider flight. DHV 1/2 has for a number of years been the most common class of glider flown by pilots after getting their CP qualification and the committee wanted to encourage those new to XC flying. The two recipients so far flew 43k and 54k, an excellent performance in the UK on a DHV 1/2 glider in most peoples opinion.

If you wanted to change things you could always come to the AGM and volunteer to join the committee (we are never over run with volunteers). Who knows maybe we could create a special award for you, but then you'd have to enter your flights wouldn't you!

It's a shame you feel it "seems odd" I suspect you are in the minority and I hope the recipients don't in anyway consider their awards diminished.

The above are of course my personal views and not that of the committee.

Sorry, but no best DHV 1,2 or 2/3 award ? what about gliders with no DHV, best afnor standard or afnor performance ? what about lightweight gliders? just seems odd to give awards based on the gliders rating. if you are going to do that then make it the DHV 1 class as in theory these will have the least performance.

Can i have an award for the best flight on a gold with black leading edge glider with a red bit on top ? please can i, my mantlepiece is BARE !!

Only kidding, honest.  Happy Xmas  !

PS well done Jamie !
