Thanks for both inputs. I should have gone for the larger size reserve in the first place as I'm now just over the 100 Kgs mark.  I had a similar predicament when choosing the size of my Sigma 6 when I bought it.
I've already bought Steve Bain's Mayday 18, so will be selling my Gin.

Errr, not sure where you get a house from  :? . Actually 5.5 m/s is the same as jumping off a 5 ft wall, insignificant really and 4.3 m/s is the same as jumping off a 3 ft wall !
(v2 = u2 + 2gs if you want to work it out yourself)
6.8 m/s is the same as jumping off an 8 ft wall (Ouch !) and would require a good PLF to avoid injury, hence the DHV advice. Up to you though what you do ... :)

5.5m/s or even 6 m/s is like jumping off your house; with a good PLF you can survive it , but probably not without injury. I think the Bhpa advice is underlining that the faster descent rates are "survivable" but probably not without injury and considered "acceptable" only because it's an emergency last chance when you need to deploy.
I'd much prefer to jump off a wardrobe than a house and have done what Steve is doing and changed up on both my reserves (at some considerable expense but ,I consider worth it, if only for the extra peace of mind. I've gone for Gin one-G 42).
A good Plf is still recommended and shoild be practiced (who does? I don't), but the descent rate is much preferable: You pays your money (alot) and takes your choice.

Fly safe .

Steve, as I understand it the BHPA advice only applies to DHV/LTF certified reserves which are allowed a sink rate up to 6.8 m/s or so (too high !). The Gin 1G is CEN certified and therefore has a max allowable sink rate of only 5.5 m/s which is considered acceptable as is. In fact Gin quote a sink rate of only 4.3 m/s at max weight for the 38 so even better. So I'm not sure that changing up to the bigger size is necessary for the Gin reserve, could even be a problem with stability perhaps due to it being under loaded etc.
