Some good points there Gron. Can't see Nasher being persuaded by 'girlie' flying machines but it's all aviation at the end of the day. Another thing that has come up a few times is the possibility of erecting a pictorial information sign,(jointly with the Swansea tourist board and National Trust) at Rhossili.
It could be on the lines of: 'Ever wondered what those flying 'parachutes' are, soaring over the Rhossili downs? Well, did you know the world record was once held at this site for a flight lasting 12 hrs; that these modern flexible wings are capable of attaining heights of over 18.000' and that the current world distance record is... and all they need is wind, thermals, a good well trained pilot and decent weather to fly.'
There is always so much interest down at Rhossili and it would certainly add to the enjoyment of someone's day out, while at the same time promoting and presenting our mad sport in a positive way. Anyway, it's just an idea that might be worth exploring further.

I'm sure I'd speak for us all if I said that it's good to see John Nash giving a lot of his time for the benefit of the Club, and to the sport in general at UK level, ........now that the lucky sod has retired!  Many thanks Nasher   (- or "NashFly" as per the car number plate!)
It's healthy to take a fresh look at the Constitution.
An early section states :
2.        OBJECTIVES

The Objectives of The Club shall be:

·         To promote the sports of Hang Gliding and Paragliding
·         To negotiate for and protect the use of flying sites
·         To encourage responsible attitudes amongst the membership

It may possibly be time to add "Footlaunched Powered Hang Gliding and Paragliding" to the first part.  Some of us in the Club are showing an interest in flapping our wings, in addition to just gliding them.  I would guess that by now, there are more people interested in the addition of power to the equation, than there are doing Hang Gliding.  (I think that if we were living close to a towing site in this part of the world - then I'd still be a Hangie!  However, I'm eternally grateful to the sheer genius of paraglider design to enable me to do some memorable flights in France, Spain and Turkey.)
Perhaps we'll run this one up the flag post & see how it flies in the meeting tomorrow evening.
Happy flying! - in whatever form of aviation!
Gron.

Revised Club Constitution
« Reply #1 on: April 04, 2010, 08:10:43 AM »
The current club constitution, although well drafted, has been around a long time, so I volunteered to update it.

Please find attached a revised constitution, which has been written within the spirit of the old constitution, but brought up to date. In doing so I have stuck to accepted general Club constitution practices & BHPA guidelines.

Committee members have approved this constitution. The intention is that it will be an agenda item at the forthcoming AGM. The current constitution specifies that constitution changes can only be made at General Meetings (as does the new one).

Copies will be available at the AGM, but members may like to read it prior to the meeting.

Remember - It's only Flying!
